QUEEN’S PARK — The Ontario NDP is calling on Doug Ford to follow up with more than just words on ticket resale price gouging, introducing the Putting Fans First Act, 2026. The act would ban the resale of tickets for more than their original face value.
“Doug Ford has mused about taking action on this issue for eight years, ultimately doing nothing,” said Shadow Attorney General Kristyn Wong-Tam (Toronto Centre). “Enough of the empty promises. It’s time for him to put his money where his mouth is and put fans first.
“The Conservatives removed the far-too-modest 50 per cent cap on ticket resale prices — implemented by the previous Liberal government — in 2019. Ontarians are fed up with talk, and they deserve no less than full relief from this predatory practice. The Ford government has an opportunity to stop with the sound bites, and vote for our bill to take real action on finally protecting consumers.”
“No one should have to go into credit card debt to see their favourite artist or sports team,” said Shadow Minister for Public and Business Service Delivery and Procurement Tom Rakocevic (Humber River—Black Creek). “Within seconds of trying to buy a ticket, fans face outrageous prices, while ticket resale sites rake in the profits.
“Think of the millions extra that fans have likely paid; whether it's fans of the Raptors, Leafs, Blue Jays, or Taylor Swift. This is a chance for the Ford government to stop the same thing from happening to FIFA World Cup attendees, and prove that they really are looking out for Ontarians.”
We're so happy to have you on the team. We'll be in touch soon.
