Dr. Lennox introduces Save a Life Act to make Naloxone available in public spaces

QUEEN’S PARK — Ontario NDP Shadow Minister for Mental Health and Addictions Dr. Robin Lennox (Hamilton Centre) introduced the Save a Life Act (Naloxone Kit Registration and Public Access Act), 2026, calling on the Ford government to take meaningful action to prevent opioid-related deaths by making Naloxone available and accessible in public spaces where automated external defibrillators (AEDs) are currently placed:

“More than 2,000 Ontarians die of opioid poisoning every year,” said Lennox. “Everyone in our province knows someone who has been impacted by this crisis.

“Many of these opioid toxicity incidents occur in public spaces. By making life-saving Naloxone available in those spaces, similar to AED defibrillators, we can give bystanders the tools to save a life if they see someone in need.

“Ontario has already lost too many people to the toxic drug crisis. Ensuring safe and reliable access to Naloxone in our public spaces is a simple step we can take to prevent future tragedies, as we work toward ending the crisis altogether.”
